“Action Fraud, the UK’s national reporting centre for fraud and cyber crime, said it received 875,622 reports between 2020 and 2021, with a reported loss value of £2.35bn.

“People who turn to online dating after long-term relationships are one of the most at-risk groups targeted by fraudsters, experts said.

“Romance fraud almost doubled during the Covid-19 pandemic – with a recorded increase in losses from £7.9m to £15.1m (+91 per cent).”
