Have you ever had one evening when you wanted to read a book in peace, but an invisible enemy died on the right and missing as if you were a buffet at will? Mosquitoes, this stubborn summer parasite, are the very definition of “small but persistent”. And while some are willing to spray half apartment with aggressive repellent, there is a much more natural, elegant and fragrant solution.

In this story of citrus fruits, we combine lemon, cloves and candles in something that acts as a improvised spa fragrance, but which actually acts as an anti-life area. No emission of chemical vapors, no strange laboratory smell. Only nature in the pure state in your living space. And there is better: it is not just a make -up to sleep better, but a real mini aromatherapy with an anti -media effect.

What you need:

  • 1 large lemon
  • 1 small lemon
  • A handful of cloves
  • 2 white tealight candles (or slices of thicker candles you have at home)
  • 8 bamboo chopsticks or wooden skewers
  • A little creativity and a few minutes of time

The process – or how to create a safety system against citrus mosquitoes

1. Preparation of the lemon base

Take a larger lemon and cut it in half, then fill it with the cloves of garlic in a uniform way. Do not read: the larger the covered surface is, the more intense the perfume will be. And the mosquitoes will act more their antennas.

2. Installation of a candle

In every half, make a hole large enough to contain a candle. If you use larger candles, just cut them, as if you were giving shape to a lego brick of wax, so that they perfectly adapt to the lemon cavity.

3. Bamboo structure: perfumed architecture

Put four sticks around each half of lemon. They are not only served for aesthetics: the sticks help to stabilize the “construction” and create a sort of natural candelabrum.

4. Lemon in lemon

Now let’s move on to the final garnish to the citrus fruits: cut a smaller lemon in half and gently cover the surface with the lemon. You can place it slightly on the side, like a design cover, or let the candle protrude a little, depending on how romance you want to give the environment.

5. Turn it on and enjoy it.

Turn on the candles and let the lemon juice and the essential oils, heating, create a citrus aromatic cloud. For humans, the smell is refreshing, but for mosquitoes it is a real “security exit”.

Why does it really work? (And it’s not just yet another Pinterest decoration)

The combination of lemon and cloves is an ancient natural tactic, also used in the regions where mosquitoise I’m not a joke (read: tropical area). The essential oils, released by heat, act as natural repellents. Lemon contains citral and limonene, compounds that mosquitoes can detect from afar and, to tell the truth, do not like at all. Garofano nails release Eugenol, an effective substance also in many natural repellent against insects.

In addition to its functionality, this citrus candle has another advantage: it is also aesthetically pleasant. Ideal for summer evenings on the terrace, picnics, romantic dinners or simply to finally sleep again without spasms and itching.

Conclusion:

Although it may seem the perfect combination for a summer drink, this homemade citrus “trap” is one of the most elegant and natural weapons against mosquitoes. Forget spray and electronic devices that crack like an old modem: nature offers better alternative. Perfumed, decorative and above all effective.
