Well, Xiaomi has decided that this situation is acceptable. All for the appearance, nothing for functionality. And yes, people were slightly angry. This is also the Xiaomi Yu7.

But this is only a heating before the main show: SUV with a name Xiaomi YU7which should launch the Tesla Model Y in the electric market. According to Xiaomi’s logic, if you already produce smartphones, you can also compete with the largest empire of electric vehicles on the planet. It’s not difficult, right? But the beginnings are difficult, as some of the stories of the last few weeks show.

Sabagotage show at the Urtra Su7, the fastest sedan in the world

While the audience was still recovering from the aerodynamic placebo, Xiaomi updated the software of its Su7 Ultra – its ultra sedan – during the night, bringing its power from 1,548 hp to 900. Ready?! It is no more than a simple mechanical castration, but a real automotive lobotomy. And then they wondered why the Internet had exploded.

What does Xiaomi do? It announces that it is a harmful online campaign. He says that about 10,000 accounts on Weibo and Xiaohongshu are carrying out an organized defamatory operation. And do you know one thing? Maybe it’s also true. But where were those managers of public relations when they advertised the “fake hood”?

And then comes the Yu7 … the SUV of the future …

On paper, Yu7 is a wonder of nature. Three models: standard, pros and max. 96.3 kWh battery, autonomy of 830 km (if the air conditioning does not turn on), 800 volt architecture and brutal power. Take towards the one hundred? 5.9 seconds. In this comparison, the Tesla Model Y looks like a slightly breathless yoga teacher.

And this: 15 minutes of charging = 620 km of autonomy. Tesla? To do the same thing it takes almost double the time. Ah, and Xiaomi also wisely calculated that the Yu7 weighs almost 400 kg more, but compensates with greater comfort and price. Of course, if you are willing to bear another 50 weeks for childbirth.

Industrial plans of a giant that is not yet completely big

The production takes place in Beijing, where the factory has already been expanded in two phases. The first was completed in 2023, the second will be completed in June 2025. She Jun says that 380,000 vehicles will be produced by the end of the year (280,000 su7 and 100,000 Yu7). More than they dared to promise publicly. Ambition is not a problem. Realization? Well, for the Su7 there is still a period of waiting for almost a year. So … calm down.

The interior of the Yu7 is halfway between a game console and a technological zen. The Xiaomi Yu7 is interesting. Serious. Technically impressive. But the first generation? A little too enthusiasm, little self -criticism. And that old story according to which you first learn to walk, then you learn to run: Xiaomi ignores her. They prefer to wear running shoes from the beginning and shout: “We are the new Tesla!”

Not yet, Xiaomi. But it is nice that you are presented to the starting line.
