One of the main guilty of this infinite story? The old knowledge of static electricity. The dry and worn surfaces that need treatment become electrified and – boom – dust goes back faster than delivery from an online store. Here is a homemade antistatic detergent: natural and delicate!

Homemade antistatic detergent! Why does it work? A short guide to domestic chemistry

Vinegar: This versatile domestic superhero dissolves fat, kills the bacteria and … yes, even disarms the furniture. If you use it in the washing machine as a softener, why not keep it on the shelf of the living room?

Glycerin: Without smell, with character. It creates a thin, almost imperceptible layer on the surface that rejects the dust and gives the wood the feeling of having just been in a spa. They even use it in more stars hotels: if it’s good for them, it’s also good for your daily routine. The reason of the antistatic.

Olive oil: It nourishes, protects and prevents the desert effect of the wood surface, making it dry and chapped. In addition: lightly oiled wood = less dust. But be careful, this is not an invitation to fill your belief as a salad. The less it is better.

Etheric oli: Yes, they have an unpleasant smell, but they also disinfect a little. If you have always dreamed that your living room perfumed from Mediterranean garden or Spa Zen, now it’s the right time. (And no, it is not necessary to turn on the incense for this.)

Alcohol: It acts like an accelerator turbo in the detergent, ensuring that the surface is dry quickly and that the essential oils do not disperse as tourists in a swimming pool. But it should not be exaggerated, just like with cocktails.

Recipe 1: antistatic spray for every day (vinegar + glycerin)

Ideal for: Lacquered wood, painted surfaces, mirrors, glass shelves: everything that loves dust.

Ingredients:

  • 1 liter of distilled or boiled water
  • 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar or white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon of glycerin

Processes: Pour all the ingredients into a spray bottle, close and shake as if to prepare a mojito. If the glycerin is too dense, help yourself with a little warm water.

Use: Spray on a microfiber cloth (not directly on the furniture, unless you prefer the “wet stain” effect), dry and let it dry. The surface will be clean, gently protected and, fundamental thing, the dust will think twice before returning.

Council for sensitive noses: If the smell of vinegar reminds you of the salad, reduce the quantity. A teaspoon will be enough.

Good version: Add a little alcohol (for example 1/4 liter of 70 %medical alcohol) for faster drying and a better effect. But be careful: do not use it on unsolicited wood, unless you like the chapped “vintage” appearance.

The perfumed dot on the I: Add 5–10 drops of essential oil. Lemon? Freshness. Lavender? Zen. Pine? When you want your home to have the scent of a luxurious sauna.

  • 1 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • 10–15 Drops of essential oil (Long live lemon!)

Preparation: Pour everything into a spray bottle. Shake well: the oil and the water are like two teenagers at a party: they do not mix alone.

Use: Spray directly on the wood, dry with a dry cloth and here it is: the wood shines, smells of good and does not absorb the dust. But: Do not overdo the oil. The goal is a silky shine, not a slippery descent.

Mini shot: If you don’t have essential oils, you can add a teaspoon of lemon juice. But then keep the detergent in the refrigerator and use it immediately, just like a fresh lemonade.

Smart suggestions (because you are intelligent user)

  • Eat correctly: Shadow, ambient temperature, far from the sun. No, the detergent is not suitable for the shelf of the liqueurs.
