How to prepare an Red Bull -style energy drink at home: exact recipe, same efficacy, price hundred times lower?! Red Bull homemade!
Energy drink For those who want more energy, but not less money. A recipe with ingredients of proven effectiveness and with the possibility of complete customization. Here is your homemade Red Bull.
Energy drinks such as Red Bull, Monster and Prime are basically simple syrups with caffeine, taurine, acids, sugar and aromas. Preparing a drink similar to home is surprisingly easy: the secret lies in precise proportions, in the correct order of mixing and in the quality ingredients.
Commercial energy drinks contain a rather predictable combination of ingredients: caffeine, taurine, sugar, citric acid, various aromas and some additives for “marketing” (read: vitamins of group B, whose excess is quickly eliminated by the body). With some notion of basic chemistry and the correct procedure, it is possible to prepare a very similar drink at home.
Advantage? Control on the ingredients, the possibility of regulating the amount of sugar and caffeine, taste to taste and an almost ridiculously low price: about 11 cents per portion.

So what do we need? Red Bull homemade?!

The drink prepared in this way contains about 100 mg of caffeine and 1000 mg of taurine per portion: the same amount or even more than the commercial Red Bull (80 mg of caffeine). There is less sugar – ca. 20 g per portion, or considerably less than a can of Coca-Cola (45 g).
Advantages of the home version
- Prezzo: About € 3.60 for 1 l of syrup = 32 portions = ~ 11 cents per portion.
- Control on the ingredients: You know exactly what you are drinking: no secret.
- Adaptability: It is possible to reduce or increase the amount of caffeine, add other ingredients (for example Ginseng, L-carnitine, electrolytes).
- Duration: The ingredients are durable, the syrup is kept in the refrigerator for 1-2 months.
Beware of caffeine! This requires particular attention!
Caffeine powder is strong and requires precise weighing. Even few grams can constitute a dangerous overdose. Use only a digital scale with a precision of at least 0.01 g. The maximum daily quantity recommended for an adult is about 400 mg. It is recommended to avoid their use in pregnant children and women. Use less than too much for your homemade Red Bull!
Conclusion
A homemade energy drink, homemade Red Bull, gives you the same charge as Red Bull, without spending too much and without mysterious additives. With ingredients dosed with precision and a little experimentation, you can create the drink you prefer: sweeter, more fruity, stronger or more natural. An hour of preparation saves you 70 € per month and, even better, the energy you use to prepare yourself in some way works better.
