Just when you think you have seen them all, here’s what happens: the new Yugo, the car of the time of high -waisted jeans and video recorders, has returned! And yes, now he also has the opportunity to survive more than three days without a mechanic.
If you grew up in Yugoslavia, Yugu both sitting and pushing him. Maybe both. But be careful: the new Yugo is no longer the subject of jokes, but a concept that also excites the Germans. Well, at least those of Monaco, where he debuted at the Car Design Event 2025 as … model. But hey, Porsche 911 was also born as a sketch!
The futuristic -retrospective look was created by the Serbian designer Darko Marčeta, under the guidance of Professor Dr. Aleksandar Bjelic – which means yes Yugo is now accompanied by a doctorate of research and a potential aesthetic degree. The model clearly indicates that it is an urban rocket with a square silhouette, minimalist surfaces and a touch of nostalgia.
New Yugo? What do we know? Just enough to make us want more
At the moment, the new Yugo is still in the “We observe and dream” phase, but the forecasts are attractive as a Burek at 3 in the morning. They promise versions with aspirated and turbo petrol engine (read: something for the grandmother and something for the child), as well as an electric model, because, of course, we are in 2025.

This means that you could finally go from one traffic light to the other faster than a pedestrian. They do not yet reveal specific figures, but if we should believe the rumors of Car Magazine, they could already surprise us in the autumn.
Destination: Europe. America? Too bite
If you are American and you are reading this article, we have bad news: the new Yugo almost certainly will not be able to cross the Atlantic. Which could be better for all the subjects involved. In Europe, the car will compete in a class dominated by Citroën C3, Renault Clio and VW Polo, a class in which every euro and every millimeter of leg space count. Yugo claims to be able to produce until 2027

What did you feel after the first vision? The nostalgia is strong, but the new Yugo does not rely only on this. Thanks to a new vision, to an intelligent design and the promise of convenience, this small (but noisy) car is able to find its place on the streets. If he could combine retro charm with modern reliability (and if he offered a sporty version with really contained consumption), it could become a real “City Car Cool” for the new generation.
The prices are not yet known, but given the positioning, we can expect something halfway between “can I afford it” and “Should I use a credit card for the USB-C charger inside?”. A humble desire: that it remains fun and rebellious as it was before.
