The last suunto Run racing clock is not simply a new device on your wrist: it is your new personal running manager, source of inspiration and (if you believe it) motivational guru with Amoled display. Will the new Helsinki watch finally convince those who have long relyned on Garmin or Coros?

Suunto Run has a minimalist design, but an unparalleled technical precision in its price range. The question is: is this enough to convince the user looking for a watch for every day, every kilometer and every regeneration?

First of all, who is suunt?

The Suunto Finnish company has existed since 1936, when Tuomas Vohlonen patented a compact liquid compass. Almost a century later, Suunto is synonymous with robustness and precision in the world of outdoor equipment. If you are a mountain runner, a mountaineer or a polar explorer, most likely your watches bear the name Suunto.

But in recent years, their smartwatches have often been overshadowed by Garmin’s “ubiquity” and Coros’s “young revolution”. Therefore, the model seems Suunto Run Like their thoughtful counter -offensive: lower the price, improve design, optimize functions and offer something that also makes sense for urban runner.

What does Suunto offer run?

  • Peso: only 36 grams. Coros Pace 3 (30 g without strap) should also start to worry.
  • Screen: AMOLED. Finally Suunto enters the world of high brightness and bright colors.
  • GPS: Sony Dual-Band chip, the same as the Suunto Race. Translated: your path of running will finally resemble a park and not to a modernist abstraction.
  • Drums: up to 12 days in normal mode, 20 hours with GPS at maximum precision. Up to 120 hours in tour mode.
  • Sporting modes: 34. Which is sufficient for 95 people % and more than most people can count.
  • The price: less than € 300 (acquire)which puts it directly in the ring with Coros Pace 3 and Garmin Forerunner 165/255.

Why should I choose it instead of Garmin?

Garmin is synonymous with racing watches, of course, but also complicated menus, too many options and the feeling that the clock is smarter than you. Suunto Run makes the opposite: it offers you what you really need. GPS, heart rate, intervals training, sleep analysis and an app that has not been designed to be a aerospace engineering tablet.

And choirs?

In recent years Coros has surprised for its simplicity, precision and very affordable price. But Suunto has an advantage: design and experience. The watch is visually sophisticated, it brings with it the legacy of decades of sports watches and is made with materials that do not pretend to be what they are not.

And the weak points?

If you are an expert user, you will notice that Suunto does not have all the “apps IQ” of Garmin. If you are an analysis enthusiast, you will miss more detailed metrics on a cadence, the length of the step or trends of VO2Max over the years. But, realistically, most users don’t even control this.

Conclusion: a watch that can say “no”

Suunto Run It is not for everyone. And that’s why it’s interesting. It is not the best intelligent all-in-one device. It is not a fashion accessory, it is not a toy for statistics fanatics. But it’s a watch that knows why it exists. To run. And for the runners.

If you want a watch that is intelligent enough to understand you, but not too much to overflow, this is the solution for you. Or, as Suunto says: Publish your story. At the price of 249 euros, we think it is a real deal.
