As an off-road enthusiast, dirt roads and functionality that go beyond the city sidewalks, I have always been hesitant about the CR-V. But the new Hybrid Trailsport really surprised me. In reality, most of the SUVs leave me rather cold. Well, at least until they get dirty. But Honda CR-V Trailsport Hybrid? This caught me right at the point where I am more sensitive: between the routine and comfort. And the love for Japanese brands.

We are realistic: many people today are thinking of suvper to overcome … the sidewalks with greater safety. But there are also those of us – I am one of these – which, in the face of the expression “Off -road tires” We become brigade as a guard dog towards the past. When I hear “All -time all -time traction”my radar turns on. And if the car still has Airbag for the kneesthen I know that someone somewhere has also thought about long journeys towards unpredictable corners of the world. And that was Japanese.

As a travel enthusiast of Overland (and yes, a person who measures free time based on the height of a roof tent), I remained frankly, a little surprised by the Trailsport model. Positive.

“You know, when someone talks about SUVs, I usually think of soft lines and rigid suspension. But the Honda Cr-V Trailsport Hybrid? What has left me speechless.” I wondered, observing the robust continental Crosscontact ATR tires and the elegant and original Ash Green Metallic paint.

Trailsport = ready for the path?

Let’s start from the beginning: this is the first CR-V with great off-road ambitions. And even if it does not claim to climb the Mangart (there is an asphalted road), it has enough power for 90 % in all scenarios of the real world: 204 horses (152 kW), 335 Nm of torque and an AWD system in real time with intelligent traction control.

It is not a Jeep Wrangler, but for those who occasionally go to a refuge, to a source or on a snowy step, it is more than enough. And the best part? In the city there are absolutely no fines. I tell myself when I can park comfortably in Ljubljana without having to do three moves to go back.

The outside also tells a story: trailsport coats of arms, more pronounced bumpers, 18 -inch wheels in Shark Gray. But inside? Rubber mats (read: permission to get dirty), details embroidered on the seats and environmental lighting amber color which, in the evening, gives a very special touch. glamping sensation.

Digital explorer

Honda is finally able to offer digital comfort that is not an end in itself: the driver has a 10.2 -inch digital display, the central screen is 9 inches and Apple Carplay and Android Auto Wireless work without fear of overturning the coffee while looking for the cable.

“Finally something that does not need a cable! Thanks to the sky!” I thought of me and me, probably still under the impression of the unfortunate USB accident on the snowy Vršič, when I lost navigation and my dignity at the same time.

But I am more interested in consumption than the screens. And here trailsport does not disappoint. Thanks to the hybrid traction with two electric motors, the liters of petrol disappear more slowly than a weekend in Val Trenta. Cheap, fluid and … silent. Almost too silent if you are used to an old diesel SUV that woke up the neighbor who lives in three houses away in the morning.

Conclusion: an SUV that you will not want to use only for a weekend

The Honda Cr-V Trailsport Hybrid is designed for those looking for more than a simple means of transport: look for a partner for hiking adventures, rainy dirt roads and improvised camping trips in the middle of nothing.

“If I had it, I would add a roof curtain and a tool box the next day”, I wondered before I started looking for accessories on Google. (Suggestion: the trailsport accessories catalog is dangerously valid.)

Price? Between over 45,000 euros/comparable dollars – if available in the EU – and of course depending on the market and equipment. It is not the cheapest SUV on the market, but it is one of the most sensible. And above all, one of those who will not make you feel as if I had bought yet another city SUV that trembles with every gravel quarry. At the same time, this is Walking Japan, and this means a lot for some of us.

If even I, a man who swears on the “real” SUVs with a soul (without Airbag for the knees), I say that trailsport deserves praise for off -road vehicle … then you know there is true.
